SEO

I started this blog as an homage to one of my other favorite blogs that I try to read every day, Seth Godin’s. I was turned on to Seth’s blog by my SO. I knew if I was going to tackle something as ambition as a daily blog his was the model to fashion. It’s bite sized and manageable.

Part of why I read it every day is because it’s a fast, easy, sometimes informative, sometimes entertaining, sometimes philosophical, always unique thought. And I can read it in a few minutes over coffee. I like that. Part of my issue with most blogs is that they are too long. I was so happy when recipe blogs started putting the recipe at the top. I just don’t have time to scroll through all the words and pictures and refreshes to get to the instructions.

So Seth’s was my inspiration. I planned on being more business/writing oriented but my blog has veered more to daily thoughts, current events, and almost a daily diary. This is life. Things don’t always follow the path you set out on and maybe I’ll swing back to more business focus. Maybe not.

I’ve been very consistent which is big because there are times when I flat out don’t want to write. So that discipline is huge for me. What has floundered is my marketing and traffic. I’m not good at all this stuff. Honestly when more than a few people read, it kinda freaks me out. I’m comfortable in the void. But I’m starting to focus more on these goals because they are the reason I write. To promote my books and the only way to do that is to increase traffic and word of mouth.

A fellow blogger posted a good article a few days ago on all of this. It had some good advice. It’s funny how things pop up at just the time you’re thinking or needing them. I’m hoping by summer’s end to start a more aggressive strategy with my web traffic. I’m also hoping to plant some magic beans. We’ll see which pans out.

Wish me luck as I dive into this fun and overwhelming part of SM. And excuse the mess as I try to figure it all out!
