It’s Saturday the day most of us work toward all week. I’ve read it, you’ve read it, the idea that we shouldn’t care that it’s Saturdy and if we were doing something purposeful we wouldn’t need a vacation from our lives. Blah, blah, blah.
Nice work if you can get it. So here’s an idea. We can’t all live our best lives sometimes. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do. But we can take a Saturday (metaphorically speaking) and spend the whole day away from our homes and keyboards. We can set a budget from $1 to whatever (but less is more in this exercise) and do something. Point blindly at the local paper’s activities and go. Volunteer. Hike. Surf. Sit and meditate among nature. Practice a new cooking technique. Read.
Be bored. Fall behind on weekend chores. Get antsy with the lack of productivity. Feel insecure about not checking your phone every two minutes. Want to scrap it all as stupid and start back up your normal routine. Only don’t. And I guarantee this one small day of negative time value will fill the cracks you didn’t even know were there.
Re-plug tomorrow. It pays dividends.
